About Annie
My name is Annie Briney. I have a passion for meeting individuals where they are on their journey to learn, grow and make progress in academic, social and personal settings. I came into this passion through volunteer and peer-tutoring-based work as an adolescent and teenager. My love for working with and supporting individuals with special needs led me to complete a bachelor’s degree and obtain a teaching credential in Severe/Profound Special Education from the University of Utah in 2013. This was followed by a year of teaching in secondary and post-secondary settings, teaching and supporting students with significant intellectual and physical needs.
In 2014, my husband and I moved to San Diego, where I have had the pleasure to expand my career by obtaining a secondary credential in Mild/Moderate Special Education and completing a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governor’s University.
For the last 10 years, I have taught students in grades K-12 in both San Diego Unified School District and Chula Vista Elementary School District. I have taught as a Special Day Class teacher and Resource Specialist. This has enabled me to develop informed teaching practices, write and implement effective IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) and develop professionally alongside incredible educators and administrators.
Over the years, my work teaching students with varying intellectual, academic, social and emotional needs has led me to discover my desire to serve students and families on a more individualized and personal level. I aim to bring this passion to alternate learning settings, through Special Education advocacy and personalized consultation based on the needs of individuals and families. I deliver services with both my head and heart and bring a unique combination of knowledge and sensitivity to the vulnerability that can be part of understanding the Special Education process. I have extensive experience in helping adults and children utilize and implement learning-based systems to organize learning and growth in individualized ways.
I look forward to exploring the possibilities of your growth, or the growth of your family, as you navigate your unique circumstances.
In my free time, you’ll find me enjoying pizza/movie nights with my family, singing and playing the piano, walking the hills of La Mesa with our family dog, Gus, making cookies with my daughter or trying to beat my husband in pickleball.
